Satellite Actuator

The application is always the key to operation of a linear actuator. Industrial Devices has more many years prided itself in ensuring the customer receives the best possible service and product. One such a example of this is when the company was called by a customer using Italian linear actuators to raise and lower a satellite dish. The satellite actuators being used where suitable for the application in respect to load capacity, but unfortunately the manufacture had major problems with water ingress. Industrial Devices have a range of actuators which have protection to IP66. In this application the satellite dish is being used to provide a broadband link into remote areas.

The Satellite actuator application involves the units being mounted on the top of a vehicle and driven to remote locations. Industrial Devices modified the design of the Satellite actuator to give the customer distinct advantages. The design changes included machined tolerance clevis ends to prevent backlash, a one piece cable so preventing potential water ingress.

Following extensive testing the Satellite actuator systems has been used by the military in the Middle East to provide communications for the personnel in the field. The Satellite actuator are also fitted with rotary potentiometers which provide a feedback to the control system to indicate where on stroke the unit thrust rod has reached. In addition to the potentiometer the units are also fitted with end of stroke limit switches which stop the unit at the end of stroke. In addition to the end of stroke limits the units have a volt free signal switch, this gives an external signal that the unit has reached the end of stroke. The lambda actuators have been used in many applications where the environmental conditions are particularly harsh.
